Ben Cohen, Co-Founder, Ben and Jerry’s Gourmet Ice Cream.Together with Jerry Greenfield, Ben Cohen founded Ben & Jerry's in 1978. Cohen and Greenfield become leaders in the field of values-led business. After turning Ben and Jerry’s over to Unilever in 2000, Ben has continued his personal involvement in social change. He is on the boards of many organizations, and is an active founding member of Businesses for Social Responsibility, an organization that works to promote socially responsible business practices. Fay Ferguson, Co-CEO, Burrell Communications.In 2006, trade publication Advertising Age named Burrell Communications the "Multicultural Agency of the Year". During her twenty-year career with Burrell, Ms. Ferguson has had a leadership role on many of the country's top brands, includingMcDonald's, Toyota, Procter & Gamble, Allstate and General Mills. Prior to her advertising career, she was an eighth grade English teacher at an inner-city school. She has received numerous awards, including the "Most Influential Woman" Award from the Women's Leadership Federation. Ferguson serves on the Executive Board of Perspectives Charter School and is a board member of the Chicago Advertising Federation, the Board of Governors, American Association of Advertising Agency Chicago Council and the Turner/Patterson Company. Deborah Meier , Leading educational innovator. Deborah Meier is often considered the founder of the modern small schools movement. After several years as a kindergarten teacher, in 1974 she became the founder and director of the alternative Central Park East School, within the public school system, which embraced progressive ideals in an effort to provide better education for children in East Harlem, New York. Additional schools followed, and in 1987 Ms. Meier received a MacArthur Fellowship for her work. In 1996, Meier moved to Boston, where she founded a small K-8 pilot school. Meier regularly speaks and writes on the on the connections between small schools, progressive education, and public schooling.Amy Millman, President and Board Member, Springboard Enterprises, Inc.Amy Millman has established a successful 25-year career working for and with business and government officials. As one of the founders and current president of Springboard Enterprises, she has built an organization which has assisted hundreds of women-led high-growth enterprises raise $3 billion in investment capital in less than three years. Prior to Springboard, she served as Executive Director of the National Women's Business Council. She is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and received a Masters degree from The George Washington University, where she is currently an adjunct professor. Richard Spaulding, Management Executive Committee and Board of Directors, Scholastic, Inc.Mr. Spaulding’s career in educational publishing began when he joined Scholastic in 1960, following graduation and service in the U.S. Air force. During 45 years with the company, Mr. Spaulding’s assignments have included Manager of the School Division, Publisher of Scholastic Book Clubs, and Publisher of Scholastic Magazines. As Executive Vice President of Marketing, he has overseen Scholastic’s U.S. marketing activities. Dick has been a member of the Scholastic Inc. Board of Directors since 1975 and serves on the board of several of Scholastic's international companies. Patricia Wasley, Dean and Professor, Educational Leadership & Policy Studies, University of Washington.Prior to her position at the University of Washington, Ms. Wasley served as Project Director with the Puget Sound Educational Consortium’s Medina Project, which studied 85 teachers as they explored aspects of teaching leadership, and was a Senior Researcher at the Coalition of Essential Schools at the Annenberg Institute of School Reform at Brown University. In 1996, Ms. Wasley was appointed Dean of the Bank Street College Graduate School of Education, where she led the faculty in a comprehensive redesign of the teacher education program and built new school-university partnerships with school districts. John C. Whitehead, former Chairman of The Goldman Sachs Foundation, Chair, Lower Manhattan Development CorporationMr. Whitehead began his professional career in 1947 at Goldman, Sachs & Co., where he worked for 38 years. He rose quickly within the company and was named Partner in 1956 and Co-Chairman and Senior Partner in 1976. He has served on the boards of numerous companies and as a Director of the New York Stock Exchange and Chairman of the Securities Industry Association. In April 1985, Mr. Whitehead was asked to become Deputy Secretary of State, and he served until January 1989. Since returning to New York, he has been active in a number of educational, civic, and charitable organizations. In late 2001, he was appointed to Chair the Board of the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. |
